Buchu Essential Oil
Botanical Name: Agathosma betulina
Used in the perfume industry and in aromatherapy where it is considered to have an uplifting and stimulating effect. Buchu essential oil has antiseptic, anti-rheumatic, anti-arthritic and many other qualities.
Has a green minty aroma.
The main components of Buchu Essential Oil are: cis mercaptone, diosphenol, iso menthone, iso pulegone, limonene, menthone, pulegone, para diosphenol, trans mercaptone, cis acetylthiol, and trans acetylthiol.
Blending and Uses
Buchu essential oil blends well with Cedarwood, Frankincense, Ginger, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Neroli, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Rosewood, Sandalwood, and Ylang-ylang.
Buchu essential oil can be used to repel insects and parasites such as flies, mosquitoes, fleas, lice, and bedbugs. It also acts as an antiseptic.
The Essential Oil of Buchu is toxic in nature and should be used only in mild doses. It should never be used during pregnancy. Pulegone is a hepatotoxin and can be over stimulating to the kidneys. It is therefore not advised for people with kidney disorders and pregnant women.
