Red Thyme essential oil is reddish-brown in colour with intense, fresh, herbal top notes and sweet, spicy, medicinal undertones. It is often used during convalescence, to prevent infection and to treat respiratory infections. High in toxic phenols – use with care.
Red Thyme is the crude distillate of the distillation process, and as the name suggests, is red in colour. It is more aggressive in its chemical make up than other variants and it is high in toxic phenols. Red Thyme should only be used by experienced aromatherapists.
Try White Thyme for milder variants.
Red Thyme has a stimulating and warming effect on the senses. It can be useful for the nerves, fatigue and for boosting the memory.
Red Thyme oil can help stimulate the body’s immune system to help prevent and fight infection. It is particularly beneficial for for respiratory problems such as coughs and colds. Its warming effect can also be useful for muscular aches and pains.
Avoid during pregnancy and if suffering from high blood pressure. High phenol content means this oil is a dermal and strong mucous membrane irritant. Avoid on sensitive skin, with children and the elderly.
